Jonah Field
Jonah Field is a natural gas field located in Sublette County, Wyoming, approximately 30 miles south of Pinedale. The field was discovered in 1993 by the Amoco Corporation, and it has since become one of the largest natural gas fields in the United States.
The field is located in the Jonah Field Anticline, a geological formation that stretches for approximately 24 miles and contains an estimated 14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. The field is named after the nearby Jonah Buttes, which are prominent landmarks in the area.
The development of Jonah Field has had a significant impact on the local economy, bringing in jobs and revenue to the surrounding communities. However, the development has also raised concerns about its impact on the local environment and wildlife, particularly on the area's mule deer population.
To mitigate these concerns, the Jonah Interagency Office was established in 2007, which is a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Land Management, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, and several other government agencies. The office is responsible for managing and monitoring the impact of natural gas development in the area, with the goal of protecting both the environment and the local economy.
