Pinedale

Pinedale is a small town located in western Wyoming's Sublette County, and it is situated in the foothills of the Wind River Range.

The first settlers arrived in the Pinedale area in the late 1800s, and the town was officially founded in 1904. The town's name was derived from the presence of large, ancient pine trees that dominated the area.

In the early years of Pinedale's development, the town served as a center for the local sheep and cattle ranching industry. The town also served as a supply center for the nearby oil and gas fields, as well as the construction of nearby dams and reservoirs.

During World War II, Pinedale served as a training ground for the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army. The soldiers trained in the nearby mountains, honing their mountaineering and skiing skills in preparation for battles in the Alps.

In the post-war years, Pinedale experienced a period of growth and prosperity, thanks to the continued expansion of the oil and gas industry, as well as the development of new outdoor recreational opportunities in the surrounding mountains and lakes.
